Managing your Reputation Online

Some people say that if you’re not pissing people off, you’re not doing your job. That can be true, especially if you’re pushing forward making noise in your industry. You can’t please everyone, and if you tried, you’d never see the potential of your company.

But should you care when people complain about you on the internet?

Yes. Like your sisters name on the towns water tower, you should be concerned.

There’s a difference between running around not caring what people think and moving forward not letting people get you down. If you’re product is being talked about on the internet you should know what people are saying. Their feedback can help you improve as well as put out a fire that could have been prevented and doesn’t represent your companies overall character.

If you’re a company that’s making A LOT of noise, you may want to be aware of Google’s Autocomplete feature. (This is the feature that guesses what your typing) A few days ago when I typed in a companies name, I was halfway through typing it when Google offered what it thought I was typing. Two of Google’s recommendations included the company name followed with the word “Cult” and “Scam”

Google’s algorithm predicts and displays search queries based on other users’ search activities. If there’s enough users complaining about you, you may get some publicity that may start effecting your results. It’s hard enough sometimes to get people to search for you. Losing them during the search because you failed to care about the impact of your business, will eventually…..impact your business.
